Grass Seed Bank

Our restoration techniques are simple, easy to adopt, low-cost, sustainable, and deliver visible impact in a short time.

About the restoration technique

Grass seed banks are community-protected areas set aside for growing grasses and harvesting grass seeds. Livestock and wildlife are kept out, giving grasses the rare chance to grow undisturbed. In the middle of dry, barren landscapes, these areas soon turn into lush islands of green; living proof that the land can recover when given time and care.

Local communities take the lead in managing and maintaining these grass seed banks. As the grasses mature, they produce seeds that are carefully harvested and sold in local markets. The income generated doesn’t leave the village, it is reinvested into community projects that strengthen livelihoods and support local development.

The impact goes even further. Part of the harvested seed is saved and used to restore nearby degraded land or shared with other regreening initiatives. From a small protected plot, restoration spreads outward, turning grass seed banks into powerful hubs of hope, resilience, and regeneration.
