A hopeful start to the year

The rains have finally arrived and with them, a renewed sense of hope across our landscapes.

Across semi-arid regions of Tanzania, our half-moon bunds are already doing what they were designed to do: capturing precious rainwater that would otherwise run off hardened, degraded land. Instead of being lost, this water is slowly soaking into the soil; reviving rangelands, restoring lost vegetation, strengthening livestock health, and supporting more resilient livelihoods for local communities.

The impact of each bund is powerful. A single half-moon bund can harvest between 1,000 to 5,000 liters of rainwater in just one average rainy season. Now, consider this: we have dug over 37,000 half-moon bunds so far.

That translates to millions of liters of rainwater captured, not wasted, but redirected into the earth where it belongs. This water is quietly transforming dry, barren landscapes into thriving ecosystems once again.

What we’re witnessing is more than just land restoration. It’s the return of life, productivity, and hope. It’s communities seeing their environment recover, their livestock grow healthier, and their future become more secure.

Because sometimes, real change doesn’t happen all at once it doesn’t rush.
