OUR GOVERNANCE

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the highest decision making organ on all matters of LEAD Foundation. The AGM is comprised of founder members, ordinary members, honorary members and Office Bearers. One of the main responsibilities of the AGM is to set overall objectives, aspirations, policies and goals of LEAD Foundation. Members exercise their authority through the Annual General Meeting (AGM) or extraordinary meetings.
The Board of Directors is the second organ of LEAD Foundation and one of its main responsibilities is to engage in the process of visioning, policy-making and strategizing.
The Office Bearers of LEAD Foundation are the Annual General Meeting Chairperson, the Board of Directors Chairperson, the Executive Secretary and the Treasurer.
The third and last organ of LEAD Foundation is the Management Team under the leadership of the Executive Secretary.

OUR Patrons and Ambassadors

Tony Rinaudo

Patron

Known worldwide as “the Forest Maker,” Tony Rinaudo is the Australian agronomist who pioneered Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), the method LEAD calls Kisiki Hai. His work has helped restore millions of hectares across Africa by rediscovering the living root systems beneath degraded land. A World Vision advisor and recipient of the Right Livelihood Award, he first introduced FMNR to LEAD’s founders in 2012, and his vision remains at the heart of everything we do.

Chris Reij

Patron

A sustainable land management specialist and Senior Fellow at the World Resources Institute, Chris Reij has spent more than four decades documenting and championing farmer-led restoration across Africa’s drylands. His research helped bring the scale of natural regeneration to global attention and inspired the movement to regreen the Sahel. A long-standing friend and advisor to LEAD, he helped connect the organisation with Justdiggit, opening a partnership that has since taken Kisiki Hai to hundreds of villages.

Frida Amani

Goodwill ambassador

Frida Amani is one of East Africa’s most influential female rappers and a leading voice for the environment. A media personality and activist, she champions ecosystem restoration and women’s empowerment through her music, including her own song “Kisiki Hai,” named after LEAD’s flagship method, and the LEAD regreening anthem “Kijanisha,” which she recorded alongside Ben Pol, Christina Shusho, and Joh Makini. In December 2025 she was named the UN Environment Programme’s first-ever Advocate for Ecosystem Restoration. A long-standing Goodwill Ambassador for LEAD, she brings the restoration message to a new generation.

Dennis Garrity

A world-renowned agroforestry scientist and former Director General of the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Dr. Dennis Garrity is a leading global advocate for trees on farms and “evergreen agriculture.” As a Drylands Ambassador for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, he has championed restoration at the highest levels, and his work continues to shape the science behind LEAD’s approach.

Robert Winterbottom

Patron

A restoration and natural resource management expert with more than forty years of experience across Africa’s drylands, Robert Winterbottom has advised major global initiatives on land restoration and food security, including work with the World Resources Institute and the Global EverGreening Alliance. He has been a valued advisor and connector in LEAD’s growth.

Ben Pol

Goodwill ambassador

One of Tanzania’s most celebrated Bongo Flava artists, Ben Pol (Benard Michael Paul Mnyang’anga) is an award-winning singer and songwriter known for hits like “Sophia,” “Unanichora,” and “Pete.” A proud son of Dodoma, the heart of LEAD’s work, he has won multiple Kilimanjaro Music Awards and performed across Africa. He has put his voice behind restoration directly, joining fellow stars on “Kijanisha,” the LEAD regreening anthem, and recording “Kijanisha Dodoma” with Nyati Mchoya for the Regreening Dodoma Program. As a Goodwill Ambassador, he carries LEAD’s message of restoring Tanzania’s land to audiences across the country.
