Agroecology Project

Summary

The overall objective of this project, which targets 600 direct beneficiaries in 8 villages of Kongwa district, is to improve the food and nutritional security of the vulnerable households and to promote sustainable landscape management in the semiarid region of central Tanzania using community-based agroecological approaches through:

  • participatory planning, diagnosis and implementation of integrated watershed management; and
  • promoting the use of innovative and agroecological based agricultural practices that enhance sustainability and household resilience.

 

Duration and Status

Three years from 2021 to 2023
The first phase of the project is successfully completed and we looking forward to extend the project by scaling it up and adding eight more villages.

 

Achievements by October 2023
  • 2 Technology hubs established
  • 437 Direct beneficiaries reached
  • 3,895 Indirect beneficiaries reached
  • 38,000 Trees planted
  • 210 Hectares land restored

The project is implemented by ICRISAT, TARI and LEAD Foundation and funded by Biovision Foundation for Ecological Development of Switzerland.
