Summary
The Kisiki Hai for School Children Project has been LEAD’s first project to include schoolchildren in our mission of regreening Tanzania. With the support of BlinK Committee, we developed a curriculum and teaching manuals to be used in teaching Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) to primary and secondary school pupils within Kibaigwa town as a pilot project. We introduced and trained the method of conserving the environment by FMNR to the BlinK stakeholders in Kibaigwa and conducted several meetings with Ward Education Coordinators from different wards in Kongwa district for the purpose of collecting their inputs for developing the curriculum together. The curriculum has been used in extracurricular activities while awaiting the long process of officialising it and including it in the main school curricular of Tanzania. The story booklets that have been developed contain short stories as well as real-life situations, photographs and educational copywriting. By making use of characters, both animal and human, the booklets introduce environmental awareness in a playful but educational way to young children.
Duration and Status
Four years from 2016 to 2019
The project has been successfully completed and we build on the gained knowledge on our Kisiki Hai for Schools project to reach even more pupils and teach them about conserving the environment trough Kisiki Hai.
Partners
This project has been funded and invented by BlinK. BlinK is an acronym for the friendship between Bidborough Village, U.K. and Kibaigwa town, Tanzania. It is a smart use of the first letters of their villages B and K, inserting ‘lin’ to form BlinK. Their partnership has given birth to joint projects completed so far to improve a school and medical centre in the Kibaigwa township.
